The Soviet Union Collapse, Jenny Hallam and The Cannabis Prohibition

On December 25, 1991, the Soviet hammer and sickle flag lowered for the last time over the Kremlin. The Soviet Union perished, leaving Boris Yeltsin as president of the newly independent Russian state.

And from one moment to another, a powerful and large influential empire collapse and several countries emerged. The most interesting thing is that with the collapse of this ideology, thousands of books and a propaganda machinery became an absolutely and truthful lie to humanity.    

For those who were born and lived the cold war and the war on drugs understand the parallelism. Millions of advocates of the communism woke up and realized that the 70 years of communism was an absolutely lie. The Soviet Union collapse for lack of freedom.

Today, we are facing a similar situation with the Cannabis prohibition. In Western countries, millions of souls are subjected to an evil propaganda machine that has kept hidden the truth of a plant that has been part of the human history.

This propaganda machine and legal system that keeps hundreds of prisoners in jail will collapse because it is as simple as that darkness can not rule the world. It is clear that the ruling politicians, a legal system based on lies and Police Forces can't keep a double standard speech of free market, democracy, and civil rights while strangling an emerging old plant and a new world that will bring health and healing for all.

In Australia, the government has ruled that medical cannabis is legal and yet they keep dinosaur laws and putting good people in jail for manufacturing medicines and giving them away for free to those needed. On the other hand, the same government is farming marijuana, with the excuse of experimenting when it is simple they feel they should take over the mafia's job.

I respectfully invite Australian politicians to wake up and take a leadership and responsible approach and free the market to compete with other countries that are taking advantage of this unstoppable market. Whether politicians understand it or not, whether they accept it or not, Cannabis is here to stay.

Australia: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Francisco Botero painted this wonderful canvas "Dancing in Colombia" in 1980. Botero's art often depicts scenes of leisure in which people are shown drinking or dancing. Though his satirical renderings may seem humorous at first, they are often laden with social and political commentary. "Dancing in Colombia" depicts a lively café scene. The room seems overcrowded with seven musicians, two dancers, and a jukebox. Details such as the floor littered with cigarettes and fruit and the exposed light bulbs on the ceiling suggest that this particular café is rather seedy, attracting clients of a decadent and perhaps immoral nature.

The Colombian Conflict began in the mid-1960s and was a low-intensity asymmetric war between Colombian governments, paramilitary groups, crime syndicates, and left-wing guerrillas such as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and the National Liberation Army (ELN), fighting each other to increase their influence in Colombian territory.

220,000 people have died in the conflict between 1958 and 2013, most of them civilians (177,307 civilians and 40,787 fighters) and more than five million civilians were forced from their homes between 1985 – 2012, generating the world's second largest population of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

In the 80's, the control of the drug business was a major factor that drove the conflict but most important, it was the politician's stupidity and lack of proper determination to take the right decision in legalizing the drug business that caused that amount of suffering.

LEARNING FROM OTHER'S MISTAKES IS AS IMPORTANT AS A LESSON LEARNED.

Australia needs to wake up. Australia needs to stand up by itself and recognize the need of legalizing the cannabis business to start with. By avoiding a necessary historical step, our politicians are affecting millions of lives and getting behind a technological race that a significant number of countries are already way off ahead.

It is not my intention to number the benefits legalizing the cannabis business in Australia, except one, Colombia faced the criminal war of an unequal society that made its citizens overcome the lack of actions of the political elite. WE MUST AVOID THAT AT ANY COST.

I trust, and I pray that our politicians will wake up and take actions before the crime keeps growing and controlling a multi-billion dollar business that feeds 1.5 millions Australian citizens that smoke weed regularly and must go to the black market while our politicians try to understand where the belly bottom is.

I am a firm believer that the cannabis business is a political matter because it is about personal freedom, the power of choice and as stated by the Mexican government, it is a human right but moreover, as stated in the Unite States is a HUGE business. Just the state of Colorado invoiced $1.2 Billion last year (2016) with a population of 5.4 million souls.

The world is changing very rapidly, the young population will face larger and more complex challenges and by keeping anachronic, agonizing and nonsense laws alive and worst unjustified laws and against proven scientific facts only put our politicians in a very high risk of losing their jobs in a no-far-away coming poll.

Politicians, listen to the people.

Politicians, Join us because those politicians who support the prohibition, who fool around with the time of the needed ones, simply show you are with the crime. Are you?

IGNORANCE, THE NEW WORLD ORDER

I will try to express myself as a Latino-American, born in that vast continent that has given so much to the world, in such a little time.

This post is not for the ones who does not understand the value of the studies and the hidden details that God and the Devil hide for the curious to find knowledge and question what is right and wrong.

I love the US as my country. The US is my Alma Mater. I spent 11 years of my life there. Half of my family is American born.

My dearest friends live there. The best memories of my life. I got my Engineering degree there. I learned from my fellow Americans about civil disobedience there. I learn to protest there.

So here I am, as a little man in front of a New World Order.

What the new US administration does in regards to the National Security by banning entry visas to questionable and targeted people is understandable and to an extent I support it.

But when it come to the environmental issues... that is a universal matter. The environment matters to all human beings in all nations. There are no border nor walls on this regards.

Today, I feel like the communists when the Soviet Union and the Wall of Berlin fell... confused, lost... now what?

How the fuck can anyone asks the scientist to shut up on regards to 50 years of proven facts (based on studies) that we human beings are diminishing the environment with our current economic model and therefore it is causing the Global warming issue.

It is clear that the politicians have taken off their masks and openly say to everyone, "we don't need education" and they are right, for what?

And I also remember this song by Pink Floyd, Mother

Mother, Do you think they will drop the bomb?

Mother, Do you think they will try to break my balls?

Mother, Should I build the wall?

Mother, Should I run for president?

Mother, Should I trust the government?

Mother, Will they put me in the firing line?

Hemp Capitalism

When we talk about Capitalism, it is justifiable to understand why most simple mentally shut down the topic.

I think any discussion on this matter will drive us to a no-answer-yet dead-end or spark a motivation to speak up the essence of our existences. It is like talking about religion and politics.

Capitalism is a Reality-TV show discussion about the human and divine. And Leftism (Communism, Socialism, Militarism, Dictatorships, Religion Rulers and of course, my favorite, Monarchies) are science-fiction.

The problem is not that 8 people own as much money as 3.2 billion people in the poorest countries on earth.

I fully support Capitalism but I also support social care for the needed ones, regardless of each one of the personal circumstances. Capitalism is supported by smart minds and only Capitalism will find a solution to balance and heal the world. Capitalism can not be surrounded by rings of poverty.

We are all human beings and some require more permanent assistance while others may need temporary help. Not everyone is born to make money and earn like the richest.

When we say that poverty is in the mind is because, even though it sounds true for a self-help and personal growth purposes, it is also quite real!.  So real, it hurts and affects each one of our cosmic atoms when it is present. Poverty is a sickness as much as greedy. Both sicknesses affect the spirits and the souls.

However, those 3.2 Billion people live in countries where financial greed and political power pursues is the day by day rule. 

In those countries, the education level is much lower than what we are used to complaining in the Western world and believe me, all government decisions gravitate on the corruption.  So, the formal education is divorced from reality.

And corruption is so widely socially accepted that it is part of the culture. And most accept the same speech of the local politicians. 

So, the education system is set up to drive that purpose. And those genetically smarter have no options to fit in or get a chance in the industrialized world.

So, it is an evil negative circle.

It is a common equation across all countries, rich or poor that 1% of the population owns 50% of all incomes and assets. The rest of the 50% "belongs" to the governments and the rest of the people who are broken down in High class, Middle High class, poverty line (everyday survival) and below poverty line (the vast majorities).

If those 8 richest people on earth would sell all assets and the retirement income would only depend on the financial interest from the capital they would have at hand, their money will never dry up nor stop growing in quantities by earning only interests.

But I am not saying that achieving that level of economic success is impossible, on the contrary, it is possible, because, and that is the counterpart of the ugly part, in Capitalism, an individual can make a difference and when the sum of individuals gathered together, then nations grow strong. 

To reshape the world is necessary to reshape the economy.

I am a firm believer that the Industrial Hemp can make a difference. 

There are scientifically proven facts of the properties of this plant and its benefits for humanity, and moreover, there are great investment opportunities for all citizens.

Industrial Hemp can eventually, fully substitute the polluting O&G self-destructive industry for one that saves water, and is more sustainable,  and earth-friendly.

We need more investors, more farmers, more growers, more manufacturers, more scientists, more specialist and trades of all kinds. We can create millions of new jobs and solve the basic needs of human beings.

Ah, sorry I almost forgot one little obstacle. Government's acceptance that we either grow up or get behind, technologically speaking and over let crime keep running the business. There is no more time for listening recycled speeches. For the Industrial Hemp to grow, it needs a strong and Research & Development and Engineering sectors,  and stop impending new business opportunities and personal freedom to create wealth.

Hemp history and the power behind it

Hemp is an ancient plant that has been cultivated for millennia. The Columbia History of the World (1996) states that that weaving of hemp fiber began over 10,000 years ago! Carbon tests have suggested that the use of wild hemp dates as far back as 8000 B.C.

In Great Britain, hemp cultivation dates back to 800AD. In the 16th Century, Henry VIII encouraged farmers to plant the crop extensively to provide materials for the British Naval fleet. A steady supply of hemp was needed for the construction of battleships and their components. Riggings, pendants, pennants, sails, and oakum were all made from hemp fiber and oil. Hemp paper was used for maps, logs, and even for the Bibles that sailors may have brought on board.

Cultivation

17th Century America, farmers in Virginia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut were ordered by law to grow Indian hemp. By the early 18th century, a person could be sentenced to jail if they weren’t growing hemp on their land! Hemp was considered to be legal tender. For over 200 years in colonial America, hemp was a currency that one could use to pay their taxes with! (Don’t try that today, kids!)

The 1850 U.S. census documented approximately 8,400 hemp plantations of at least 2000 acres. Strains in cultivation included China hemp, Smyrna hemp, and Japanese hemp.

For years, hemp farmers used a hand break operated machine when harvesting. Finally, a machine was built that would take care of all the processes, breaking the retted stalks and cleaning the fiber to produce clean, straight hemp fiber which was equal to the best grades prepared on hand brakes. This machine was able to harvest 1000 pounds or more of clean hemp fiber per hour. This breakthrough made cultivating more fiscally attractive by reducing labor costs. By 1920 the hemp crop was entirely handled by machinery.

In 1896 Rudolph Diesel had produced his famous engine. Like many others, Diesel assumed that the diesel engine would be powered by a variety of fuels, especially vegetable and seed oils. Henry Ford of the Ford Motor Company seeing the potential of biomass fuels operated a successful biomass conversion plant producing hemp fuel at their Iron Mountain facility in Michigan. Ford engineers extracted methanol, charcoal fuel, tar, pitch, ethyl acetate and creosote, fundamental ingredients for modern industry. Today these are supplied by oil-related industries.
Prohibition

Viewing hemp as a threat, a smear campaign against hemp was started by competing industries, associating hemp with marijuana.

Propaganda films like “Reefer Madness” assured hemp’s demise.

When Congress passed the Marijuana Tax Act in 1937, the decline of hemp effectively began. The tax and licensing regulations of the act made hemp cultivation nearly impossible for American farmers. Anslinger, the chief promoter of the Tax Act, argued for anti-marijuana legislation around the world.

An interesting situation arose during World War II as American Farmers were prohibited from producing hemp because of the 1937 law. However, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor halted the importation of Manila hemp from the Philippines, prompting the USDA to rethink their agenda and creating a call to action with the release of the film Hemp for Victory, motivating American Farmers to grow hemp for the war effort. The government formed a private company called War Hemp Industries to subsidize hemp cultivation. One million acres of hemp were grown across the Midwest as part of this program. As soon as the war ended, all of the hemp processing plants were shut down and the industry again disappeared. However, wild hemp may be found scattered across the country.

From 1937 until the late 1960s the United States government recognized that Industrial Hemp and marijuana were two distinct varieties of the cannabis plant. After the Controlled Substances Act was passed, hemp was no longer recognized as being distinct from marijuana.

Business Opportunities

 

How do I start making money from industrial hemp?

How much money am I really going to make?

How much is the minimum investment?

The Hemp Business is broad and scalable. It is also self-sustainable, ecological and earth friendly.

 

The business is driven by the market acceptance of a product and the farming area available to satisfy the production.

 

Each idea is a project that requires a product development, a marketing study, an engineering support and a trustful project management direction.

 

Numbers talk

 

In Australia, If total stem yields are conservatively assumed at 10 t/ha (dry weight basis) and priced at approximately $245/t, this equates to $2,450/ha. With estimated growing costs of approximately $800–$1,200/ha, on this basis, there is potential for industrial hemp to compete with other broadacre summer crops, once the infrastructure is established.

 

Now, from the Stalk, Flowers, and Seeds harvesting, there are subproducts can be used for multiple purposes.

 

For clarification, the acre is used a common unit of measurement. 2.4 acres makes a Hectare.

 

Air-dry stem yields range from 2.5-14.0 metric tons of dry, retted stalks per hectare (1 to 5 tons/acre) at 12% moisture. Approx. one ton of bast fibre and 2-3 tons of core material can be decorticated from 3-4 tons of good quality, dry retted straw.

 

Industrial hemp production statistics indicate that one acre of hemp yields an average of about 700 pounds of grain, which can be pressed into about 50 gallons of oil and 530 pounds of meal.

 

That same acre will also produce an average of 5,300 pounds of straw, which can be transformed into about 1,300 pounds of fiber and 4,000 pounds of hurd.

 

Fiber is used for canvas, rope, lace, linen, and ultra-thin specialty papers like cigarette and bible papers.

 

Hemp hurd fiber is used for all grades of paper, composite building materials, animal bedding and a material for the absorption of liquids and oils.

Case Study No 1

Hemp required per unit = 8 tons (walls, lab, mezzanine, roof and stairway)

 

Area required per unit = two acres

 

Harvesting time= four months

 

Time to build and deliver each unit = four months (not including internal architecture and furnishing.)

 

The market is targeted for the youngster, early retirees, nanny house, couples self-sustainable like-minded communities.

 

A hemp decorticator equipment and an infrastructure will be required for processing purposes.

 

Case Study No 2

Greenhouses are needed for nursery purposes and indoor farming.

Challenges and Risks

 

The farming and the infrastructure are certainly a bottleneck but not the only one.

 

Connecting the market with hemp products are still in stigma levels.  Government regulations are also very important to consider

It has been long since I wrote last time.

We are simply humans and a tsunami of personal and professional matters has kept me away... but not absent!

I reaffirm, that a Cannabis world trade commerce will be needed quite soon and if you can't grow your own then it is not a free market and the free market is the foundation of the Western Civilisation that must rule the Hempconomics.
